The Department of Dance is committed to providing a rich, well-rounded education at undergraduate and graduate levels, preparing both young and mature artists for careers within dance and beyond. As part of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, and situated within a major research university, the Department is uniquely positioned to maximize excellence, innovation, learning and action, and entrepreneurship.
Our mission is to bridge practice and scholarship, and to foster interdisciplinary inquiry. We support and respect artistic, intellectual and social diversity. As an internationally renowned faculty, we embrace a wide range of disciplinary and aesthetic perspectives. We offer a variety of approaches and methodologies, preparing future dance professionals for careers in an ever-evolving field. Students forge their own creative voices, consolidate a range of technical and transferable skills, and enjoy extensive performance activities.
We continually re-examine our curriculum in order to prepare our students as leaders of their field while simultaneously acknowledging and informing the dance traditions of our individual and collective past.
The Department of Dance offers two degree programs: the Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Master of Fine Arts.
There is no dance minor. For those who wish to pursue their academic interests in addition to dance we offer a
dual degree program.
