Meet with an admissions counselor

The School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) admissions staff welcomes the opportunity to consult with prospective students and their families.  These meetings are of special value in determining the appropriateness of your educational plan, present level of development in professional training, and tentative choice of curriculum.  To schedule an appointment, contact the SMTD Office of Admissions and Student Services:

Appointments can be scheduled Monday - Friday from 8:30  to noon and from 1:00 to 4:00.   We especially encourage visits during the Academic Year to allow for observation of classes and/or rehearsals.  The SMTD is not gnerally in session during the Spring and Summer terms, but our office is open year-round.

In addition to an appointment with an Admissions Counselor, please consider the following when planning a visit.

Composition
Prospective Composition students are encouraged to visit on Mondays or Fridays, when several activities are available to them. The Student Composer Forums take place on select Mondays.  Please visit the Calendar of Events for more details.   On Fridays, you are welcome to attend the Composition seminar class and talk to current students in the program. Please contact the Office of Admissions and Student Services to arrange these appointments.

Instrumental & Vocal
Several Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs rehearse on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Please see Ensembles for a rehearsal schedule.

Jazz
The Jazz combos rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please see Ensembles for a rehearsal schedule.

Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre
These departments produce several shows throughout the year. Please check the Calendar of Events for a schedule of performances that you might be able to incorporate into your visit.

Tour U-M's Central Campus

We encourage visitors to Ann Arbor to arrange a Central Campus tour with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Most music and theatre courses and rehearsals will take place in the Moore Building or the Walgreen Drama Center on North Campus; most dance, liberal arts classes, and many performances will take place on Central Campus.  Music, Theatre, and Dance students travel easily between campuses on Michigan's comprehensive (and free) bus system.

2007 College Fairs

Admissions personnel from the School participate in the National Association of College Admission Counseling Fine and Performing Arts College fairs at various locations around the country. If you cannot come to Ann Arbor and there is a fair close to your home, we encourage you to visit us there.  SMTD admissions personnel will attend the following fairs this fall:
